CAPTURING THE MAGIC!
I believe in stories. When I was a kid I was enamored with fairy tales and great stories and the magical worlds that words brought. As an adult, I find the real stories between people, relationships, what drives people to do what they do, to love, those are the stories that grab my heart. And I believe in magic. The magic in life that comes from working hard, and from fostering and nurturing what you love the most. There is magic that comes from people working together to make a life worth living. It’s something you see between people in a look, a smile, a tear… a spark. What I love the most about photojournalism is the ability to capture the beauty of that magic. Just a tiny moment in time that goes down in history and helps you remember…
My passion for photojournalism blossomed in 2007 when I was fortunate to travel to India and Southeast Asia. My photographs and video coverage of untouchable women in Johdpur, India have been used to help raise funds to enable the women to learn to provide for themselves in very unfriendly circumstances. That passion grew deeper when I moved to North Carolina in 2008. My dad, my cat, Marlow, and I settled in a little community near Asheville with a scenic mountain view. I became a contributing writer and photojournalist to the Fairview Town Crier and photography began to take over my every waking moment. I decided to make the transition into finally realizing a lifelong dream of mine…opening up my own photography studio.
I love photography and working with people. I find my clients bring a huge amount to their sessions when I encourage them to dream a little about what they want to capture — bringing their participation into creating something extraordinary. We work to bring those ideas out in creative ways, using natural light or studio light. As a portrait photographer, my job is to capture you at your best while you are enjoying the experience of being photographed.
I believe in dreams, and I know it takes a lot of hard work to make a dream come true. But it’s the hard work combined with love that makes it all worth it. I love what I do — I’m grateful I get to do this work, and thrilled for the happiness it brings to others. I feel honored to be providing lifetime keepsakes that will forever be a part of your family story. Even as the photographer, I always cry at weddings… and I still believe in magic.
Warm regards, and thanks for your visit! –Cat
